Headhunters Martial Arts has a long established history in the martial arts. It is run by head coach Alex Sneddon, who has been doing martial arts since he was a small boy and has 25 years experience of competing and coaching.
Alex was inspired by martial arts movies of the 70s and martial artists such as Bruce Lee. He officially started his career, training 5 days a week, with Grand Master T.K. Loh in the art of Tae Kwon Do. He quickly developed his skills and won many Tae Kwon Do tournaments including the Scottish Open Championship. Inspired by Bruce Lee, Alex took an interest in all forms of martial arts. He became interested in ground fighting and throws and studied Japanese traditional Jiu Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling. Soon after he began training Muay Thai, where he excelled as Scotland’s pound-for-pound best Muay Thai fighter, undefeated by any British fighter and ranked number one in Scotland for many years. Alex won silver in the Muay Thai World Championships in the “A” Class division, held in Bangkok Thailand at the IFMA world Championships. No other Scottish fighter has achieved this to date. He was also WMC British Champion, Scottish Champion and Scottish amateur Champion with many knockout wins.
Alex trained in over 15 different Muay Thai gyms in Thailand spending considerable time at many excellent gyms. For a time he was under the tutelage of legendary Muay Thai fighter Apideh Sit Hurin, who himself had over 300 fights and is regarded as one of the best Muay Thai fighters of all time. His trademark kicks actually broke many arms and legs when he was competing at the top level in Thailand. Using the extensive knowledge and experience Alex built up over the years, he began his own Muay Thai classes, forming his first gym, Kaizen Muay Thai. Kaizen Muay Thai later merged with classes from a small collaborative group of like-minded martial artists, each an expert in their respective field, bringing together Judo, Brazilian JiuJitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling all under one roof. This is how Headhunters Martial Arts Academy (or just Headhunters, HH) was born.
Since its inception, Headhunters has seen great success and continues to grow from strength to strength, as evidenced by the national and international achievements of its many top-rank fighters (see below). Meet the Headhunters Coaching Team here.
Headhunters is a large and diverse family and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow!
