We love what we do at Headhunters
And the following testimonials from Headhunters’ students past and present are testament to this.
From superlounger to superfly
Watch David Ridel hit the pads like he’s been doing it all his life – but there was a time when he wouldn’t have lasted 30 seconds. Out of shape and overweight, David Ridel made the decision to change his life for the better and Headhunters was with him all the way. Here’s what he had to say about Headhunters…
I’ve joined Headhunters 1 years and an half ago to drop my overweight and to get in shape. After only 6 month of hard training I lost 25 kg and was able to do 500 burpees in two hours (cheers Alex, lol). You can find a great choice of class. The monthly membership is a very good value especially if you are determined to push yourself. All the coaches are friendly and highly competent. Always a good atmosphere during the class The students are also very respectful with the beginners, that made me feel instantly comfortable.
So if you want to get in shape, become a warrior or a king of the ring, Headhunters is the place to go.

I was a very unfit 40 year old – I’d been eating garbage and smoking since I was ten years old. I knew my health wasn’t good as I got very out of breath while walking up stairs. I decided to follow my wife’s example and stop smoking, but to do that I had to exercise as I knew I’d certainly put weight on as I couldn’t stop eating…
I joined and studied Wing Chun Kung Fu faithfully for five years at Glasgow Wing Chun and took an Instructors course under Master Paul Smith for the last year of that.
For my Wing Chun Brown belt grading I had to do some sparring against a guy who knew Muay Thai. He landed kicks I never even saw hitting me! This played on my mind for about 5 weeks and I honestly started to doubt Wing Chun’s ability to defend against this type of martial artist. Yes, you guessed it, I decided that Mauy Thai was for me but was doubtful about my age even though I thought myself fit. I researched some Mauy Thai gyms but kept getting drawn to Headhunters in Falkirk after seeing Alex Sneddon’s pedigree as a martial artist and trainer and also that his gym was not full of “growlers”.
I plucked up the courage and went up — to say I was nervous was an understatement! I was welcomed into the gym and put on the bags for the first night and left feeling welcome. I went the next night and stayed for some sparring (not compulsory) after all I was a Wing Chun man…I got my backside handed to me on a plate in five minutes.
What I realised very quickly, even as someone who thought they were fit, was I was not fighting fit and far from it. Headhunters was training me in exercises I had never even seen before and I absolutely loved it. I was never put under pressure at anytime to spar or fight. The members of this gym are honestly great down-to-earth people. The trainers are very experienced and will help you, but only if you are dedicated, if you aren’t interested then they rightly will not.
I thought I was fit but could never get the body shape I wanted and never felt the fitness I wanted. But joining Headhunters has shown me how to train, spar and fight and I also start to see results even at my age. On the subject of age and fitness IT DOES NOT matter how old or unfit you are or what you look like. If you invest your time at this gym they will invest their time in you, but you have to work hard and be dedicated to get results. Everyone in the gym has their own battle going on inside them, which drives them even when they want to quit! So as the Headhunters motto goes “NO EXCUSES”!
If you want to get in shape, be fit and healthy and also be part of a genuinely friendly gym, then give Headhunters Martial Arts a try in Falkirk or in Edinburgh.
I’m fitter now more than I’ve ever been in my life!

The classes at Headhunters are brilliant. This is without a doubt the best and quickest way to get results, be it in terms of fitness or skills. The coaches are all really knowledgable, with years of previous martial arts experience under their belts. The coaches really take their time to ensure you are receiving proper training and learning the skills correctly. The classes are a great way to get fit and stronger whilst also learning martial arts. The 1-2-1 sessions are fantastic as they significantly improve your skills. Muay Thai at HeadHunters is the highlight of my week, every week.
I found Alex and his team after being bored at the gym and went looking for something different. After 1 session I was hooked and I was going not to get fit but because I wanted to be there – fitness was a bonus. I weighed 17.5 stone when I joined, had no self-esteem or confidence in myself – well that all changed. Within 6 months I became a completely different person all my friends noticed and work colleagues too, always making comments. My confidence was at an all-time high and my life was great. I lost a total of 5 stone within a year, I was toned and my fitness was unbelievable. I would and still do recommend Alex’s 1-2-1 private sessions and his classes to anyone who is looking to get fit. I still cannot find any other class that gives me as good a work out as I get when I’m there.
The training offered at Headhunters Martial Arts Academy is definitely of the highest order. I have trained at a few different gyms but I have to say I enjoy the classes at Headhunters the most. Every class is unique to keep things interesting. Since training at Headhunters I have noticed my power, speed and fitness has increased tremendously but at the same time I have learnt a lot of new techniques. Head coach Alex Sneddon is brilliant. He is extremely dedicated and passionate, and motivates and encourages all the students to get the most out of their training. He also spends ample time with beginners to kick-start their progress. I have had the privilege of having a private lesson with him and learnt a lot of new things and will definitely be making privates a regular occurrence. His ability to analyse and breakdown your technique and suggest improvements is amazing. The strength and conditioning classes taken by coach Shamrock Wesolowski are also fantastic. They are hard work but will definitely get you fit and strong and the exercises are tailor made to enhance martial arts training. Get yourself over to Headhunters! It is a friendly gym and you will be made to feel at ease. You will get fit, strong, and healthy and be training alongside champions.
I go to the gym a lot during the week and I’m a long distance runner but I felt I wanted a new challenge. I used to watch my brother box but just never had the confidence to try it out. I went to a mixed class at Headhutners in Falkirk and loved it. I was pushed with kicking, and loved the feeling after the classes. Getting in touch with Helen for a 1-2-1 sesison once a week has been the best thing in regards to my fitness. She pushes me each and every week, I come out with another personal goal achieved. My upper body is changing and my core is tightening. I have always struggled with ab work but with Helen, I have no choice but to push through the pain and achieve my best. She isn’t just someone who I meet up with once a week, she wants the best out of you and is just as determined as you are to achieve your goals. I love my sessions and can’t wait to see myself in the future and hor my fitness will progress.

Joining Headhunters has, literally, been the best move that I ever made. I can’t praise the place or the coaches enough – I just absolutely love it. Never before have I experienced fitness like this. Every single day I look forward to walking in the door and every single day I leave after class feeling incredible. Everyone is so helpful and nice. The place and the people have a real good vibe and you are surrounded by and always have the help, support and encouragement that you need. I’ve learned everything completely from scratch, having never done anything like this before, and I feel myself getting stronger, better, harder and faster each week that goes by. I’ve lost weight, I feel happier, stronger and more able to protect myself. My body is becoming more toned and conditioned and my general overall health has improved dramatically. I would recommend anyone to get involved and give it a try, whatever your goals may be. FIRST CLASS FREE, for anyone who has never attended before, and would like to give it a go. Get involved… you won’t regret it!
Loving my PT [personal training] sessions with Helen. First week was tough but I got through it. Second week I felt I had more energy and managed to put more into it, felt like I smashed those pads. Third week I was tired but still got through it and enjoyed it. I feel like my legs are toning up and my waist is coming back again!! It’s a great feeling when I actually feel sore on the day and next day! My inner thighs are what I feel are my biggest downfall so it’s been awesome feeling them sore and struggling to walk this week haha! Just want to say Helen has been an awesome coach. Pushed me to my limits and beyond – thankyou!! xxx
So far I’ve only had 2 PT [personal training] sessions and I am very impressed. I am a gym bunny but I feel I don’t push myself enough. That’s why I have come to Helen. A great variety of exercises, both fun and hard but more importantly I feel I get a full body workout. Helen is a great motivator and pushes me beyond what I thought I was capable of.
